The FAQ section of our site is an area that is constantly going to be changing.
We want to be able to answer simple questions without trying to have someone do something that could cause more harm if done incorrectly. That is why our FAQ section is also going to be kept simple.
One of the most frequent questions we get is: What is spyware?
The answer to that question
can get quite involved, but I am going to try to give a simple one here.
Spyware, malware
and adware are similar enough that I will describe them all in one paragraph.
These are pieces of software that are running on your computer right now without
you knowing. They run in the background and track where you go on the World Wide Web.
They use this information to send popups to your computer that mentions products that
you would normally buy or at least have looked for on the Web. The writers get paid for
every popup they present to you and they get paid more if you actually click on a link in
one. They have many more uses, but I am giving the simple version.
The other most frequently
asked question is: How do I get rid of spyware?
We have developed a process
for removing spyware from any Windows machine. Some machines have more spyware than others
and require more personalized attention to get cleaned and many times the spyware has
corrupted things that are not apparent until the spyware is removed. This is why we do
what we do because the average user is not capable of performing the tasks that our
certified technicians have to do to get your machine back in order. Just give us a
call and we will be able to solve your computer issues!
What is Malware?
Malware is a program that performs unexpected
or unauthorized, but always malicious, actions. It is a general term used to refer to viruses, Trojans,
and worms. Depending on the type, they may or may not include replicating and non-replicating malicious
code.
What is a Virus?
A computer virus is a program that has the unique
ability to replicate. They can spread quickly and are often difficult to eliminate. They can attach themselves
to almost any type of executable file. Viruses are spread as files are copied and sent from individual to
individual. Viruses that do not contain malicious code can cause trouble by consuming space and memory
affecting the performance of your computer.
What is a Trojan?
A Trojan is a malware that is malicious, but does not
replicate. A Trojan may arrive as a harmless file or application, but it has malicious intent.
When a Trojan is executed, your computer may experience system operation problems or loss of
data.
What is a Worm?
A worm is a self-contained program that can spread
copies of itself to other computers. The circulation usually takes place via network connections, email attachments,
Instant Messengers, file sharing applications, and by working with other forms of malware. Some worms may
prevent people from accessing antivirus websites or may steal licenses of installed software.
What can you do to protect against malware?
The best way to protect yourself is by using a powerful
antivirus product, and keeping it up-to-date with the latest updates.
